How to set up VPN Unlimited
for a QNAP backup device
QNAP devices act as a personal cloud, and provide macOS users with a solution to back up, store and share personal data, like photos, video and audio files. QNAP lets you access your data from any spot of the Earth through the internet. To ensure your data is safe, additional security measures should be applied. It is highly recommended to run a VPN service as a tool to protect your data while you are using your QNAP device.
This guide covers the detailed steps on how to set up VPN Unlimited for your QNAP device, using PPTP connection.
Step #1
The very first step to take in configuring your QNAP device to work with our service is creating manual configuration files. In this regard, please follow a few simple steps described in our tutorial.

Sign in to your QNAP device at www.myqnapcloud.com

After you signed in, it is a time to configure a VPN connection.
Navigate to Control Panel > Applications > VPN Client.
In the VPN Client tab, hit Add and choose PPTP.

In the Create VPN Connection screen, input the data from the settings generated in Step #1.
Input the following data in the Create VPN Connection screen:
- Profile Name: Type a name of your choice
- Server Address: Paste your desired server name
- Username: Paste a user name
- Password: Paste a password
- Authentication: MS-CHAPv2
- Encryption: High (AES 128 bit)
- Set the checkbox for “Use default gateway on remote network”.
- Set the checkbox for “Reconnect when the VPN connection is lost”.
Note: Profile name has no significant impact on the process; this is the name you give to the connection for your own convenience.
Now, click Apply to finish.
If you what to change the location, please repeat the above steps with a new server address that is available in the configuration set.
